In earlier days, fishermen would have these wooden “trawl” tubs sitting on the back of their boats, or in dories. Setting out to sea, they would coil up to 300 ft (92 meters) of hooked trawl line in these tubs, and uncoil the baited hooks from the trawl tubs onto the seafloor as the tide turned, then haul them back to catch cod and haddock. Then it was a quick turn around back to the dock to unload the fish, repair the broken hooks, and rebait the line. It was backbreaking work, and very dangerous in bad weather.
We offer these wooden trawl tubs in an assortment of colours, painted neutral grey on the inside. The measure 24 inches (61 cm) high x top diam 23 inches (58.5 cm) x base diam 18 inches (45.7 cm).
